  • Piret Johanson Studio has recently designed a 3,200 square foot office space in New York City for Valtech.

The 3,200 square foot office space designed for Valtech is located in the heart of NYC’s trendy meatpacking district in a fully renovated office building.

Located in a large brownstone that was once a General Electric Factory; the office space exudes a traditional warehouse quality. To preserve the beautiful exposed brick walls, Johanson reorganized the space by inserting an organic circular center volume between rows of supportive columns. The usual cubicle office environment was forgone for a free flowing workspace; an ideal backdrop to inspire creative minds.

The client, a digital marketing and technology agency, has a presence in 8 countries (France, UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, US, India, Korea) and approximately 1,600 employees. The design team at Piret Johanson Studio was instructed to maintain the general design aesthetic present in the satellite offices. This theme embodies a respect towards existing architectural elements and the original character of the site.

The walls of the volume installation house an entrance desk with a reception area, private office, and large and small meeting rooms. The volume gives these areas depth, creating spaces which not only curve in and out but also lean back and forth. Organically shaped openings in the volume let the users to stay in visual contact with other rooms and the outdoors at all times. A private rest area with a lounge chair was created inside the curving wall.

The perimeter walls were built to reflect the curves of the main volume and house the utility areas, which include storage and copy/ print facilities. Continual movement is exhibited on a smaller scale in the informal meeting room by utilizing Molo cardboard benches. Knoll desks are grouped to provide state-of-the-art workstations for this uniquely organic office redesign.
