SMFB – Oslo Offices
Kaels Studio has designed a new office space for advertising agency SMFB in Oslo, Norway.
These new offices for an advertising agency are located in the former Hotell Augustin in the centre of Oslo. The original building from 1900 was an eclectic mix of historic styles and references, and elements of the hotel have been retained in a surprising juxtaposition of new and old, despite the restrictions of a design-and-build contract. Some original doors and windows have been refurbished, and some of the doors kept as decorative elements behind fire safety glass. Original structural elements are visible, as close attention to the services layout avoided using a new suspended ceiling.
The new interior is designed for collaboration, everywhere and at all times, for staff and customers. The diner is used for group work and private concentration as well as for eating, and the bright yellow stair that opens between the two floors is a place of work and conversation.
