WSA Studio – Columbus Offices
WSA Studio has transformed an abandoned warehouse into the new offices for their Columbus, Ohio-based design firm.
Located on the outskirts of the thriving Brewery District, a once abandoned warehouse underwent a major transformation to become the new home of WSA Studio. Formerly home to The Columbus Jack Company, the architectural style of the warehouse and centralized location within the city were key factors that interested the firm while on their search for a new place to call home.
Built in the early 1900’s, “The Jack,” is tucked away in the heart of the Brewery District and offers its tenants a unique structure filled with heavy timber ceilings, aged and distressed brick walls, industrial windows, raw concrete floors, a dramatic vestigial elevator, private parking and a roof terrace.
The firm’s decision to salvage an abandoned and forgotten building highlights their commitment to resilient design and an investment in rehabilitating this mixed-use development in downtown Columbus. The Jack allows the studio to become “in touch” with the neighborhood, the adjacent small businesses, condominiums, restaurants and parks.
The plan for the renovation represents WSA Studio’s direct attempt at changing the way we work and live by blending workplace and residential settings. This project won the 2013 AIA Columbus Merit Award and the 2014 AIA Ohio Honor Award.
