Gattefosse is renowned for its high-quality pharmaceutical excipients and natural cosmetic ingredients. Their core mission is to develop these products based on a deep understanding of their customers’ needs. The objective for this project was to design a corporate and lab office space that reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence while providing a functional, welcoming, and versatile work environment.

Scope of the Space
The project encompasses the design of both corporate office areas and lab spaces. The design aims to integrate the sophisticated nature of Gattefosse operations with a work environment that fosters creativity and efficiency.

Theme
The overarching theme of the design combines a rich, luxurious office concept with classical elegance. This theme is intended to embody both the prestige of Gattefosse and the dynamic nature of their work, while also creating a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere.

Design Aspects
Open Office Concept: The office is designed around an open-plan concept to enhance collaboration and communication among employees. The layout includes expansive, well-lit work areas that are visually connected yet functional, fostering a sense of openness and community.

Board Room Features: The boardroom is a central feature of the design, equipped with sliding folding doors. These doors allow the space to transform fluidly between formal and informal settings. When closed, the boardroom serves as a formal meeting space; when open, it integrates with the central collaboration area, allowing for versatile use.

Central Collaboration Space: Positioned at the heart of the office, the open collaboration space is designed for both spontaneous meetings and scheduled gatherings. This central hub is strategically placed to encourage interaction and teamwork across different departments.

Breakout/Coffee Point: A welcoming breakout and coffee point is included to offer employees a relaxing space to unwind, socialize, and recharge. This area is designed to be a vibrant and comfortable retreat, promoting informal interactions and creativity.

Daylight Utilization: The office layout emphasizes maximum use of natural daylight, with strategically placed windows and open spaces that enhance the work environment’s brightness and energy. This approach not only improves employee well-being but also aligns with sustainable design practices.

Challenges
Balancing Functionality and Elegance: One of the main challenges was achieving a balance between functionality and the rich, classical aesthetic. Ensuring that the office remains practical for day-to-day operations while reflecting Gattefosse’s prestigious image required careful selection of materials and design elements.

Space Versatility: Designing a boardroom that could serve both formal and informal purposes posed a challenge. The solution involved incorporating sliding folding doors and adaptable furniture arrangements to allow for flexible use of space.

Maximizing Daylight: The project aimed to integrate natural light effectively into the workspace. This required innovative design solutions to ensure that daylight was utilized optimally without causing glare or discomfort.
