Jiuling Lithium’s Administrative R&D Headquarters – Yichun
Matrix Design’s Jiuling Lithium Administrative R&D Headquarters in Yichun, China, harmoniously blends sustainable innovation with people-centered design, creating a vibrant workspace that fosters creativity and well-being amidst nature-inspired aesthetics.
People-Centered Design to Inspire Creativity and Vitality In the face of climate change and the global shift toward sustainable energy, Feiyu New Energy’s new headquarters responds with a forward-looking workplace that merges ecological awareness, architectural innovation, and human well-being. Designed by Matrix Design, the office reimagines traditional corporate space through the lens of low-carbon design and nature-inspired aesthetics.
A Breathable, Green Workspace
Inspired by the metaphor of “wandering through mountains,” the design evokes the harmony between nature and technology. The original semi-enclosed building was restructured to open up the central atrium, enhancing daylight, airflow, and visual connectivity between floors. A sculptural spiraling staircase weaves through three levels like a mountain trail, creating moments of encounter and movement, encouraging physical activity and reducing elevator dependence. Interior spaces integrate natural wood, soft stone textures, and extensive greenery to create a forest-like (“森系”) atmosphere. Natural light filters through the atrium, reducing artificial lighting needs by 30–40% and providing a healing, energizing effect for employees. This dynamic environment blends productivity with comfort and biophilia, reinforcing the company’s commitment to both innovation and sustainability.
Office as Community
The office is designed not only as a workspace but also as a vibrant social hub. Open-plan layouts promote communication, while multi-use stair plazas, breakout lounges, and café zones encourage informal interaction and team bonding. Interior aesthetics draw on the color and texture of minerals—reflecting Feiyu’s lithium mining roots—while creating a tranquil, elegant atmosphere. A striking wall installation inspired by the periodic table showcases each element in crystal form, reinforcing the company’s identity and environmental mission.
Wellness-First Design
Emphasizing a people-first approach, the workplace features thoughtfully designed tea bars, reading corners, and wellness spaces that support mental health and relaxation. The top-floor executive clubhouse includes private dining rooms, a gym, and a swimming pool, all styled with subtle Oriental influences. This multifunctional retreat embodies luxury, balance, and creativity, offering both clients and staff a space to recharge. By integrating architecture, landscape, and interior into a seamless ecosystem, the Feiyu headquarters sets a new benchmark for future-facing, human-centered office environments—where innovation, ecology, and emotion co-exist.
