BW Energy Offices – Lisbon
BMA Group Lisboa’s BW Energy Offices in Lisbon reimagines workspace through the dynamic interplay of light and curved forms, fostering an organic, fluid environment that dissolves traditional boundaries and enhances user experience.
The Lightful Wave:
The Lightful Wave project emerges from a phenomenological premise. The transposition of the wave nature of light into the geometry of built space. This is not a figurative or merely ornamental allusion, but the adoption of wave physics, the interaction between movement and light propagation, as a parti pris that generates the entire programmatic organization.
The sinuosity of the curve, the modulation of shadow, the constant vibration of light become the vectors that dictate the layout, the volumetry and the atmosphere of the place.
Structure and Morphology
The proposal rejects watertight compartmentalization, replacing the classic succession of rooms with a continuous, non-linear path where light glides over curved surfaces. The space unfolds like a luminous wave, where the fluidity of the layout absorbs the functional needs of a contemporary office. Here, the architecture functions as a body in motion, where the transition between work areas, collaboration zones, and circulation spaces is dissolved by organic surfaces that capture and propagate luminosity, eliminating conventional orthogonality.
Comfort as a Spatial Experience
The concept of comfort is redefined beyond physical performance, positioning itself in the field of spatial ergonomics, visual perception, and the chromatic quality of the environment.
The absence of sharp edges and the elimination of abrupt transitions minimize friction in daily movement, allowing light to bathe the space without interruptions. By abolishing rigid spatial hierarchies, the design favors a democratic continuity. The space does not distinguish between visitor and resident, creating an environment of total permeability where clarity is shared. Architecture thus becomes an extension of the very body of its inhabitant, where the environment adjusts to the user’s rhythm, transforming “working” into a radiant, fluid, and integrated experience.
Siting and Relationship with the Site
The building is located in a privileged area, surrounded by green spaces and small lakes. In order to privilege the relationship with the natural elements existing on the site, the greenery and the lake become, from the implementation phase onwards, an active part of the project rather than just an accessory backdrop.
This relationship largely determines the location of the main entrance. This deep integration allows natural light, filtered by the vegetation and reflected by the surface of the lakes, to inhabit the workspace, transforming the transition between the exterior and the interior into a gesture of total continuity.
