Matrix Design’s headquarters in Shenzhen harmoniously blends nature with urbanity, featuring flexible spaces crafted from sustainable materials that inspire creativity, community, and innovation in a serene office environment.
Located in the Rongchao Building opposite Lianhua Mountain, the Matrix headquarters is a space embraced by nature—an unusual sight in an urban landscape and a key reason for choosing this location.
The design ethos emphasizes openness and flexibility. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by an undefined space with expansive white areas that encourage creativity and adaptability. Sustainability is at the core of the design, with renewable and repurposed materials featured prominently. For example, modular stools inspired by building blocks are crafted from environmentally friendly sponges. These stools can be reconfigured to suit various scenarios, such as salons, exhibitions, or presentations, reflecting the idea of sustainable functionality. Similarly, the reception desk is made from discarded stone scraps, celebrating the raw, historical textures of these materials rather than hiding them.
A central feature of the office is a theater-like gathering area, located in the heart of the space with the best views. This flexible zone is outfitted with diverse furniture groupings to support relaxation, reading, or informal interactions. The design fosters a sense of community while providing an oasis for individual reflection, aligning with Matrix’s vision of balancing productivity with well-being.
The special conference room highlights functional aesthetics, stripping away unnecessary ornamentation to reveal the structural elements of the space. Exposed beams, floors, and columns showcase the raw beauty of construction, while the transparent glass conference table emphasizes the importance of its supporting structure, making the entire design honest and inclusive. This room serves as a metaphorical “island,” representing authenticity and openness within the workspace.
Another distinctive feature is the camping area, designed to evoke a connection with nature amid the urban environment. Surrounded by a canopy, plants, and gravel, this zone provides a serene and informal setting where work and relaxation converge. The simplicity of the design encourages users to feel at ease and embrace their natural rhythms, redefining the experience of office life.
Throughout the headquarters, every detail reflects Matrix’s commitment to sustainability, creativity, and human connection. The result is an adaptive, eco-conscious workspace that inspires innovation and fosters genuine interaction.
