Liando U Valley Offices – Shanghai
Matrix Design’s Liando U Valley Offices in Shanghai masterfully integrates elegance and functionality, transforming underutilized areas into dynamic social spaces that foster collaboration and innovation within a sophisticated architectural framework.
The design of Liando U Valley Office embodies a harmonious blend of elegance, symmetry, fluidity, technological sophistication, and functional richness. As the main lobby of the project, Building 1# elevates spatial hierarchy and service capabilities compared to Building 2#. Centered around the entrance and elevator core, the elongated lobby naturally extends toward its eastern and western ends. To address the challenge of underutilized peripheral zones, innovative spatial interventions were introduced to enhance connectivity and experiential diversity.
On the western side, a sculptural staircase ascends to the second-floor conference center, seamlessly integrating vertical circulation with commercial vitality. The staircase’s undercroft is transformed into a chic coffee bar, activating the previously dormant corner while fostering informal interactions—a strategy inspired by the “multilayered interactive platform” concept seen in mixed-use public spaces 1. This design echoes the principle of combining functional clusters with aesthetic coherence, as demonstrated in contemporary commercial hubs.
To the east, a rest area is defined by undulating, sculptural furniture that merges ergonomic comfort with artistic expression. The matte-textured surfaces and modular seating units create a rhythmic visual language, mirroring the façade design principles of prefabricated assemblies that balance efficiency and artistry 8. Symmetry is subtly maintained through mirrored spatial proportions, while asymmetrical details inject dynamism—a nod to the interplay of rigid geometries and organic forms in horizontal skyscraper concepts.
The second-floor conference center features a multifunctional hall and VIP reception room. Arrival points—via stairs or elevators—lead through a versatile pre-function lobby designed for adaptability. This space transitions effortlessly from daytime receptions to evening cocktail events, aligning with the trend of “compound functional spaces” that maximize utility in urban developments.
By reimagining underused zones as social catalysts and unifying symmetry with fluidity, the design transcends conventional office aesthetics, offering a space that is both functionally robust and emotionally resonant—a true “horizontal skyscraper” for collaborative innovation .
