Abel Design Group transformed the Owner Resource Group offices in Austin, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming workspace that embodies the company’s unique family-oriented culture and promotes collaboration.
A Workspace That Feels Like Home
For a recent relocation for Owner Resource Group, Abel Design Group developed a design that retained the best elements of their former space while elevating the overall aesthetic to be sophisticated and modern, yet welcoming and unpretentious. From pre-design and programming through construction administration, the project transformed a first-generation office space into a workplace that reflects ORG’s unique, family-oriented culture.
Designing for Culture
Through an in-depth culture card programming exercise, we learned that ORG is warm, inviting, and distinct from competitors. These qualities informed every design decision, from strategically placed conference rooms and an expanded breakroom with versatile meeting areas, to increased privacy in the open work area. The reception area features carefully coordinated coffers and reveals, setting the tone for the space. Behind it, a hidden lounge—accessed through a concealed door—offers partners a place to retreat and unwind. Known as the whiskey room, this intimate space includes a mounted deer head belonging to one of the company’s late founders, serving as both a tribute and a gathering spot for end-of-day conversations with colleagues or clients.
