As the workplace continues to evolve—shaped by flexible work models and a growing emphasis on human connection—office design is being redefined to foster collaboration, creativity, and wellbeing. In this context, Cloudworks entrusted a local architect with the transformation of their latest coworking space in the heart of Barcelona’s El Born district. Completed in 2025, the project occupies the top floor of a historic building with sweeping 360-degree views over the city.

Originally designed by renowned Catalan architect Eusebi Bona Puig (1890–1972), the building is recognized as part of Barcelona’s architectural heritage. The intervention respects and celebrates the original structure, integrating contemporary design with the historical fabric of the space. The result is an environment where heritage and innovation coexist.

The design reflects both the identity of the Cloudworks brand and the character of its vibrant community, anchored in three guiding principles: functionality, identity, and wellbeing.

LEED Platinum Certification: A Commitment to Sustainability
While previous projects have explored wellness certifications such as WELL, Cloudworks El Born takes a distinct approach by achieving LEED Platinum, which affirms the project’s commitment to energy efficiency, environmental performance, and long-term sustainability. From material choices to energy systems, the design prioritizes both ecological responsibility and human comfort.

    Balancing Focus and Community
Modern workspaces must support dual functions: spaces for focused, individual work and areas for social connection and inspiration. Cloudworks El Born addresses this duality through thoughtful areas, combining focus booths, open workspaces, meeting rooms and outdoor spaces.

Private work areas (dedicated to concentration, digital communication, and small meetings) are characterized by wood finishes, textile flooring, and light tones to foster a sense of quiet and isolation. In contrast, the communal spaces feature bright colors, open layouts, and natural light, evoking the feel of a social lounge rather than a conventional office. These zones are designed to encourage informal interaction, relaxation, and creative exchange, supporting a fluid workday that adapts to the user’s needs.
