Revisiting Airbnb’s Listing-Inspired Headquarters

  • When Airbnb moved into their new headquarters last year, we had a great look into the space – which has turned into one of the most popular of all time. Using a variety of Vitra furnishings and cool, clean aesthetics, architecture firm Garcia-Tamjidi worked a delightful bit of magic.

However, when it came to a lot of the detail of the office, such as the conference rooms and public meeting spaces, the architects turned to IDF Studio to complete the job. Given that Airbnb’s service revolves around renting out people’s homes and rooms, the company thought it would be a great idea to model a number of these conference rooms after popular listings.

Locations like the Berlin Artist’s Apartment, the Large Light Filled Loft in Hong Kong, and the Mushroom Dome Cabin in Aptos, CA were among the chosen listings.

As impressive as this office is, it seems to only have been a temporary location for the company. I’ve recently learned that Airbnb is planning a move from their current Potrero Hill office to the popular SoMa area of San Francisco – for a very non-temporary length of 10 years.

According to SF Gate, the company will be leasing some 170,000sf at 888 Brannan. Curbed notes that Airbnb is anticipating this new office will hold somewhere along the lines of 1000 employees.
