  • Nehring Design has completed a new office design for ShipWorks, a shipping software company based in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Perched high above the mighty Mississippi, ShipWorks office is designed to maximize the panoramic view of downtown Saint Louis. The exterior glazing shell and expansive glass partitions used to delineate spaces allow for a highly transparent environment. Reception, conference and pantry areas were purposely placed to flow effectively from one to another while maintaining each room’s individual character and function. The open office features low height desking strategically located to take advantage of the magnificent Arch and river views. Proximity to Busch Stadium was the clear, symbolic choice in choosing a location for the game room and personal fitness center facility.

Full height mirrors mask the columns to create the illusion of a non-obstructed view and provide reflections of the city from unexpected vantage points. Simple flooring materials include porcelain tile of varying shades and sheens, raw concrete and modular carpet “rugs” to define various areas. Dimmable LED lighting and fluorescent fixtures illuminate worksurfaces and specialty furnishings throughout, and also serve to highlight the concrete waffle slab structure.

Integrated technology controls for audio visual, lighting, hvac and window shades provide flexibility by the touch of an iPad. Custom furniture accommodates specific conferencing needs, provides individual desking solutions and functions as artwork. Mid-century modern classics by Eames, Nelson and Nuguchi form optimal gathering areas while Saarinen’s womb chair pays homage to the architect of the iconic Arch.

ShipWorks office is influenced by its owners’ vision and brand – a young, entrepreneurial spirit within the city skyline where technology marries ecommerce shipping.
