SoftBank Capital Offices – New York City

Homepolish has outfitted SoftBank Capital‘s offices in New York City’s Flatiron District with a fresh and modern office design.

When we first visited SoftBank Capital’s new office in New York’s Flatiron District, we immediately felt like Kat’s younger sis Chastity from the 90’s romcom, 10 Things I Hate About You, when she asks “I know you can be underwhelmed, and you can be overwhelmed, but can you ever just be, like, whelmed?”

We’re proof that you can. Aside from a serious lack of desk space and open areas, the office just felt dreary and uninspired. An innovative firm like Softbank Capital—which invests in some of the coolest startups around (think Buzzfeed, Gilt Groupe and Betaworks)—deserves a fresh, modern space that’s as hip and forward-thinking as their portfolio.

SoftBank wanted a space that felt young and fun—a place where employees could hang out after hours. So to create a more open, airy layout, we began by knocking down the unnecessary partition walls in the front, and adding in vintage furniture with more contemporary accessories mixed in for an eclectic feel.

For an extra-personalized touch, we enlisted an NYC-based graphic designer to create vintage-inspired, black-and-white renditions of Softbank’s numerous press articles (the end result of course, is totally Instagram-worthy). Dogs (and dog lovers) are welcome here—a triptych painting of their beloved mascot Otosan, a Shiba Inu, greets visitors at the entrance.
