  • NELSON has recently completed a new office design in Chicago, Illinois for national law firm Goldman Ismail.

    The mostly boutique, national litigation practice and rapidly growing Chicago office of  Goldman Ismail Tomaselli Brennan & Baum LLP (Goldman Ismail) made a unique real estate decision to re-locate from a traditional Class A office building in Chicago’s Central Business District to a  turn-of-the-century loft building in Chicago’s rapidly expanding West Loop. Many of the partners at Goldman Ismail came from Am Law 100 or large regional practices throughout Chicago to create the firm. Important to the firm was to truly establish their own brand, commensurate with the culture these partners were creating.

    During the discovery and programming process our team learned how different a culture Goldman Ismail was and how important it was to reflect that in the workplace solution. Throughout the facility, and as a means to connect two buildings built 15 years apart, are teaming hubs/zones along the primary circulation space linking and unifying the two floor plates. Technology, writable walls and flexible furniture forms create these hubs with partial height walls and ceiling hung wood acoustical panels for visual and acoustical privacy. This circulation space terminates on the staff lunchroom where all staff comes together daily for lunch to discuss firm issues, case load, scheduling and strategy. Floor to ceiling drapery provides flexible acoustical and visual privacy when required and softens the aesthetic of this loft-like design solution.

    Primary circulation spaces and open office areas have exposed mechanical systems. Attorney offices at the perimeter boast floor to ceiling clear glass allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the space for all staff to enjoy.

    The Goldman Ismail project occupies 13,549 rentable square feet at the Sterling Bay 564 West Randolph Street building.
