Stripes Group Offices – New York City
ICRAVE recently completed an office for the Stripes Group, a private equity firm that moved out of their corporate midtown office, and into a newly constructed and freshly designed building in the Meatpacking district that appeals to their client base of cutting edge consumer product companies such as Art.com and Seamless.
The new office occupies three floors, which divide various programmatic elements – from private executive offices, to communal meeting spaces – with special attention paid to interconnectivity to foster collaboration.
Design Highlights
- Statement-Making Materials: This includes reclaimed wood from century-old New York City water towers (seen in the copier room on the 3rd floor, a kitchen with a large flush sliding door on the 4th, and as a ceiling soffit throughout the 5th floor); custom dyed, antique Persian rugs that match curated artwork throughout the office, including pieces from Leroy Granisand and Hans Van Der Meer; a unique “plant-like” green fixture in the reception area made by Vitra; and concrete that both offsets the warm wood and serves as a canvas for painted signage on the floors. The rusticated wood details contrast with the industrial polished concrete floors, state-of-the-art technology and luxurious furnishings, creating a unique, sophisticated space that is also comfortable and relaxing.
- Contemporary Lighting Solution: The client heavily invested in the newest and greatest lighting fixtures. This is actually the first project in North America to use the fluorescents seen on the 5th floor, and LED is used wherever else possible.
- Interconnectivity: This was crucial to the layout and materials ICRAVE used throughout the office: open floor plans, glass office fronts, and communal meeting spaces on each floor facilitates collaboration between employees. The managing partner’s office is a sliding glass wall that allows openness and encourages employees to come and go freely.
- Curated Art and Lighting: ICRAVE curated artwork throughout the office, including works from Leroy Granisand and Hans Van Der Meer. The in-house lighting team at ICRAVE used the latest in LED technology for this office, taking a minimal approach by using a simple linear fluorescent fixture and installing it in different ways. On the 5th floor, they grouped a traditional fluorescent striplight with other fixtures placed in different directions, creating a play of forms and lines. These fluorescent sources paired with recessed LED downlights showcase a sustainable and energy efficient lighting design.
