  • Unispace recently moved into a new office space in Los Angeles designed to demonstrate activity-based working and the firms design-build capabilities.

Unispace’s downtown Los Angeles office was created to be both an example of an activity-based workplace and a showroom for the office’s design-build capabilities. Taking into consideration the limited space available, the design enables a fully mobile workforce through unassigned benching and embedded technology, while encouraging collaboration and cross-discipline interaction.

Needing to relocate the design, marketing, project management, and construction departments of the office to a new location in downtown Los Angeles, Unispace used the move as an opportunity to rethink their office environment.

In their original space, assigned workstations with high partitions insulated team members both visually and acoustically from each other, while a lack of communal space impeded collaboration. The goal of the new office was to create an atmosphere that would allow the different departments to interact with one another in a fluid fashion.

Designers, project managers, and contractors worked collaboratively on the project from the initial stages of design until the final punch list walk. Together, team members ensured project solutions were feasible, adhering to both budget, schedule and building requirements.

The main objective was to create a work environment where information would flow freely between the multiple disciplines. This sort of collaborative environment is particularly important in order to support the organizational methodology of the company.

This design creates an environment where the lines of communication are enhanced among all team members. In addition, not having assigned seating allows team members to move from location to location based on the needs of the projects they are working on.  Embedded desktop technology within the main work surface and a fully cloud-based server enable staff access from all areas in the office.
