  • Mumbai-based film company Phantom Films has recently moved into a new office space which was previously home to a primary school. The office was designed by Richa Bahl Design Studio.

Phantoms film is a collaboration of four partners who believe in power of creativity than creating money making venture. They had a humble beginning 5 years back and have been growing at a rapid pace- producing, directing some of the biggest movies in India.

It’s a space, which has various kinds of talents collaborating to work on going film projects.

The brief given to us by ourselves was to create a creative hub and not a space, which is indicative of film production house. It needs to be chilled out, relaxed, simple yet a functional space.

The building was earlier occupied by a primary school so we redesigned the entire floor plan to accommodate a need for a film production house, which requires meeting rooms, edit rooms, open space for teams and directors cabins.

Eating is another very important activity of the office so we created an open kitchen on the garden level with a shed, which works as the cafeteria cum working space.

The theme of the office was inspired from basic materials- metal, wood and cement as we had a restrictive budget. We created a combination of brickwork and syporex walls, used metal and wooden staircase and highlighted the two floors with different heritage floorings. The ceiling was either highlighted with mesh or a patch of egg box hollows. For the window framing metal was used.

The chandelier on the second floor lobby is a prop from one of the movies, which we re-used to create a bit of drama.
