  • Za bor architects have created a new office space in for Russian search company Yandex located in Moscow’s Mamontov business center.

The office is situated on the 4th floor of Mamontov business center which occupies a historic building of a former silk factory celebrating it’s 140 year’s anniversary this year. During the reconstruction completed in the early 2000s the historical appearance of the building was preserved, with the use of modern engineering solutions and materials. As a result, in 2005 the Mamontov building of business quarter Krasnaya Roza – 1875 was awarded the Commercial Real Estate Awards as the best Moscow A-class business center.

This office is not exactly typical for Yandex, as it is densely filled with working places and has minimal «recreational» opportunities. The company would like it to be quite simple and inexpensive, still interesting. These desires were fulfilled, as the loft originally had bright and remarkable features that are not typical for modern office spaces: cast-iron columns, arched vaults, brick walls. These details have become the basis of future architectural solution.

The layout of the premises is extremely simple – the office is divided into separate departments by glass partition walls. They are situated along a wide corridor in the central part of which there are: a space for meeting rooms and informal communication zones. In order to fill the calm brick space with color nuances the vintage bearing columns were painted green, black complex plywood constructions with colorful furnishings formed zones of informal communication. Green succulents planted around the perimeter of the plywood structures echo the color of the columns.

In order to diversify the color range and the material palette larch wood with fire retardant impregnation was used in the finishing. The office is furnished with high-quality upholstered furniture: at workplaces and in negotiation rooms – Herman Miller and Fritz Hansen, in the areas of recreation and informal communication – +Halle, Vitra, Magis.
