  • Urban Design & Build has developed the new Urban: Serviced Offices located in Hong Kong.

In this project Urban Design & Build attempts to change the perception people view co-working office space. It shows a new vision to transform the office into an inspiring and enjoyable place, yet revealing elegance and professionalism.

To promote users to dip in and out of interaction with others, the designers attempts to make the interaction areas resembling a Coffee House. There are couples of huddle zones for quick meetings where non-confidential discussions can take place. Different workplace typologies are included in the design details and it gives the flexibility a shared office space needs to adapt in various scenarios. These help break the monotony in the office and create areas of interest in various ways.

The fit-out is envisaged to increase the likelihood of chance encounters and conversations overheard, promoting knowledge sharing. Therefore, solid kind of partitions are eliminated for such purpose. To cater users who need certain privacy, one-person booths are added as parts of the open office space. At the perimeter surrounding the open area, dedicated office rooms are set up for a group of working counterparts who needs working spirit and communication in definite privacy.

The ‘well-being’ of people in an office has a significant effect to the productivity of a company. With this in mind, the interior design firm infused numerous elements and one of the main focus is the ergonomics of the furniture adopted, good light distribution, acoustic issue and use of plants for natural air purification.

The simple but balanced palette of concrete, plywood, black metal and pastel colours in soft furniture creates the recognizable brand Urban: aesthetics. In addition, Urban Design & Build would like to provoke a sense of community for this shared office space. In collaboration with locally based artist Charles Munka the shared office areas are filled with artwork and the design team creates details advocating the spirit of Hong Kong.
