McCarter & English Offices – Philadelphia

Francis Cauffman has designed the new offices of law firm McCarter & English, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

McCarter & English, a two-decade fixture in Philadelphia, required a new and updated office space. Francis Cauffman was selected by the law firm to develop a streamlined architectural style with a more open floor plan.

The goal was to provide a new setting that veers away from the traditional and promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration among attorneys and staff. In addition, McCarter & English opted to downsize from 23,000 SF in the Mellon Bank Center of Center City Philadelphia to 18,000 SF on the 39th floor of 1600 Market Street.

Though the law firm has decreased the amount of space it leases, the number of personnel has remained the same. Attorney offices are now more modest in size and support staff occupy workstations that are in pod-like setups. The new space is bright, crisp and clean, incorporating a lot of glass to help bring in natural light. Today McCarter & English occupies an office space that has a more contemporary style and efficient design, a trend that is becoming more common among law firm offices.
