OTJ Architects have designed the offices of the Entertainment Software Association, located in Washington D.C.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of computer and video game publishers. ESA ’s new workplace was conceived by OTJ as a space rich in opportunities for interaction between staff and members of the organization – a showcase for the video game industry that integrates branding, technology, and flexibility.
The success of this project is measured by its ability to support the organization’s business goals. Chief among these is member outreach, which calls upon the design to communicate ESA’s brand and function within the industry.
Our designers imagined the space as an immersive experience reminiscent of the very video games the organization promotes. Immediately upon crossing the threshold of the entry portal, visitors are greeted with a live stream of video game interactions. Displays of the latest technology invite one and all to explore the realm of virtual reality or to break a quick sweat with Wii Fit.
A wealth of technology features includes short throw projection positioned at the space’s entry to create the experience of walking into a video game upon crossing the threshold and a Microsoft surface hub that connects colleges across the country through video game courses of study. Areas dedicated to virtual reality offer member companies the ability to “plug and play” onsite and demonstrate the latest advances in proprietary VR gear. Lastly, an oversized multiscreen setup supports the ultimate gaming experience: every video game console – past, present, and future – is available to showcase products ranging from early development stages to seminal moments in the history of the industry.
