  • Gensler has designed the new offices of online shopping company eBay, located in San Francisco, California.

As one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world, eBay’s focus on experiences, relationships, and stories was incorporated into the renovation of their 6th floor workspace in San Francisco. Gensler’s design of the work floor supports a diversity of work styles, offers choice, and connects employees with the eBay experience.

Contrasting spaces create a variety of experiences with private and team focus spaces being evenly distributed throughout the floor. A large open kitchen/lounge area brings employees together in one place while small think rooms offer individuals a space for concentration in an otherwise very open work environment of 100% height adjustable desks. The architectural forms help guide the employees through the space, encouraging the discovery of moments created by tucked away lounges and meeting areas and incorporating eBay purchased items. This shift in contrasting moments and choice in environment constantly drives employees to experience a diversity of stories and connections.

The client wanted to link the design of its offices to its international community of sellers, buyers and story-tellers. Gensler integrated items purchased from eBay’s site as part of the design, incorporating them into the furniture, graphic elements, and the art displayed on the walls. The environmental graphics, along with many of the items chosen for this space, not only reflect eBay’s ability to provide its users with access to unique artifacts, but also represent the movements and mindset of the San Francisco Bay Area.
