DAS Architects, Inc. announces the completion of the firm’s latest commercial project, the design of the new Pearl Properties corporate offices located at 110 S. 19th Street in Center City Philadelphia.

Pearl Properties – a full service real estate investment company engaged in the acquisition, development and management of mixed-use properties in irreplaceable locations with expertise in acquisition, development, construction, property leasing, physical property management and asset management – recently moved into the office and is working out of the new space.

The design was based on the desired Pearl Properties brand image and design vocabulary. Because Pearl is one of the premier real estate investment, development and management firms in Philadelphia, DAS was tasked with making sure the office design reflected a modern and forward-thinking sensibility without feeling stuffy or formal. This translated into a palette of basic neutrals and vibrant colors, subtle textures, readily available materials, and unexpected angles to animate the space.

The layout of the office was designed to support the various departments’ different ways of working, both collaboratively and privately, so the office is largely an open plan with visual transparency plus some privacy partitions, meeting “pods” placed between department areas, private offices and larger collaborative areas along the perimeter of the space.

The interior space is energized by two large skylights that allow for sunlight and sky views in every area of the office as one moves through the workspaces. The shapes mirror the angled lines of the 3D spaces below with dynamic changes of natural light as the workday progresses.

“My favorite design detail is the reception desk area including the angular desk and the backdrop of steel sculpture, which are fashioned out of the trusses that once were inside The Boyd Theater on Chestnut Street,” says Susan Davidson, co-founder and principal of DAS Architects as well as the director of interior design. “The contrast between the stark white desk form and the rust-textured sculptures is a reflection of Philadelphia’s story… remembering our history while providing modern solutions for today.”

“Another favorite design detail is the Xorel-wrapped panels in the break room,” she continues. “They are colorful and clustered together as wall art, but double as sound-absorbing acoustic panels.”

Davidson notes that the key to completing the project within budget and in a timely manner was really collaboration. Everyone worked together to get the job done.
