  • MKDA was tasked with designing the offices for Bank of Ireland located in Stamford, Connecticut.

MKDA was tasked with modernizing and unifying Bank of Ireland’s workplace and culture. The aesthetic is classic and contemporary, featuring a modern and elegant design. Centralized common areas and amenities create a warm, welcoming bridge between the corporate banking, trading and back office departments. The balance of openness and privacy brings teams from distinct departments together in a collection of common areas while keeping private areas private.

MKDA capitalized on the building’s bones, which feature unique atrium spaces and soaring ceilings, to create a dramatic dual-height reception lobby and conference center with numerous striking elements. These include custom walnut and marble tables, desks and credenzas; rich walnut wood-slatted ceilings and walls; large grey stone tiles; dramatic circular pendant lights; and vivid yellow upholstered seating. A retractable wall between the two conference rooms supports various uses.

The design team created a light and airy Scandinavian-inspired café punctuated with yellow and blue translucent seating and a contemporary leather sectional for soft seating. A feature wall with a map of Dublin, where the financial firm originated, brands the space.

Additionally, the firm’s employees are situated across 25 all-glass perimeter offices, 40 low-rise workstations, and 15 trading desks in an open and bright layout. Each workstation features flexible storage that doubles as seating, as well as frosted glass panels that allow sunlight to permeate the space.
