Santen Pharmaceutical Offices – Emeryville

Santen Pharmaceutical Co., headquartered in Osaka, Japan is a leading global opthamalic and rheumatologic pharmaceutical company with operations in 19 countries. We provided programming, planning and interior design services for their new 34,000 sq ft US Headquarters located in Emeryville, CA.
Programming focused on the basic idea of very big, more universal concepts, down to the minute, placing every outlet and piece of equipment; from Santen’s mission statement and how its impact is felt in the new space, to who sits where and in what kind of space with what kind of privacy.
The program includes a series of varying sized meeting spaces from small office-size breakout rooms up to large training spaces. The main entry lobby has a large stepped seating platform connected to an existing mezzanine that functions as an all hands meeting space. We provided several kitchen/cafe spaces as well as other informal lounge spaces for staff to gather and work collaboratively. Natural light is brought into the space through numerous skylights.
The office was designed with 177 open work stations to accommodate future growth, plus a series of various sized meeting spaces from small breakout rooms up to large training spaces. We also designed several casual meeting spaces and quiet rooms for phone calls. All work stations easily convert to standing with a touch of a button.
