Arthritis Research UK Offices – London
Advanced Interior Solutions (AIS) designed the offices for medical charity Arthritis Research UK located in London, England.
Each year over 30 million working days are lost as a direct result of Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions in the UK. Through the design of their new workplace and practices, Arthritis Research UK wanted to create an environment that would promote collaboration, flexible working , inclusion and support health and wellbeing, particulary MSK health.
From the outset, this project represented more than your typical office fit out, for our design team it was an opportunity to develop an offering that placed the user at the very heart of the design.
Moving away from the traditional reception concept, you emerge from the buildings central lifts directly into one of the many collaborative meeting zones. This area acts as both a greeting point for guests and colleagues from other sites and also as an active working area, mixing staff and visitors in a way that naturally promotes openness and trust.
At the heart of the office, open on all sides, is a centralised refreshments station and breakout area that has been designed to retain the strong sense of community within the organization.
The office caters for a wide spectrum of different working styles and levels of privacy, including a number of focus pods, media booths and open plan project spaces, whilst dedicated ‘retreat’ and ‘wellness’ rooms provide relaxed environments for contemplation, stretching and gentle exercise. As well as these ‘activity based working’ environments, three large meeting rooms, each separately capable of accommodating up to 12 occupants, form a flexible meeting and seminar facility.
Biophilia is prevalent throughout the space and a comprehensive planting scheme was developed to include a number of moss walls and other natural elements.
Every aspect of the design, from door handles to sofas, was carefully selected in support of MSK conditions and staff wellbeing.
