  • AP+I Design was engaged by private equity firm, Permira, to design their new offices located in Menlo Park, California.

Permira, an international private equity firm, completed a strategic lease on Sand Hill and proceeded to plan a new and collaborative workplace for both their clients and their employees. The office plan needed to accommodate the necessary privacy for sensitive communication while still providing an open and collaborative environment that would showcase the contemporary European business roots of the company. Permira envisioned a timeless and sophisticated atmosphere with varying ceiling heights, natural light, large expanses of glass, all within a neutral palette of natural finishes.

The designers created a synergetic suite comprised primarily of private offices and conferencing spaces. Specifically, the workplace had to be divided between two floors providing functionally different environments for each area.

The first floor is the designated stage “where the deals are made” and easily accommodates small and large group meetings. It is designed as a conference center, incorporating a “cozy” lounge space surrounded by conference rooms. The board room features a white-board movable wall providing the opportunity to expand the space. Each conference room has complete audio/visual capabilities including controlled lighting and window coverings.

Access to the second floor comes by the sleek central stair which sits beneath a dramatic skylight. The new stair is constructed of clear glass panels and custom metal railing. The glass-front private offices share the space with the open and day-lit coffee bar, which invites users to quick touch-and-go meetings as well as Friday pizza and brew. The modern architectural elements, with the punches of metal accents and spans of glass, provide the perfect canvas for the modern color-filled art while expressing the personality and culture of a client with a global focus.
