  • Perkins+Will recently completed the office design for software company LogicMonitor, located in Austin, Texas.

When SaaS-based performance monitoring company LogicMonitor decided to relocate their Austin office to downtown Austin, they brought renowned interior architecture firm Perkins+Will on board to design a cohesive, vibrant workplace that pays homage to the highly technical nature of their business. In order to support LogicMonitor’s “doer” culture, Perkins+Will adopted an open floor plan that allows for plenty of natural light, and outfitted the 10,000-square-foot space with branded signage, flexible collaboration spaces and a fully-stocked break room that doubles as an all-hands area.

Perkins+Will took full advantage of the floor-to-ceiling glazing along the entirety of the perimeter wall. All of the enclosed rooms were pushed to the building’s core to allow for unobstructed views throughout the open office. The meeting and conference rooms feature glass walls, increasing the sense of flow from one space to the next. LogicMonitor’s mission and solutions are abstracted throughout the office as data and metrics are integrated into the various materials, forms and graphics. The office is equipped with a technical infrastructure to optimize employee performance, engaging their own logic through dynamic, participatory designed zones for work and play.

Perkins+Will re-positioned the entry, which was originally just off of the elevator lobby, to a side wall to allow for greater privacy and create an opportunity for graphics at the entry. Now, a well-lit wall features the company’s logo atop an abstract representation of a circuit board with subtle hints at the data-driven service LogicMonitor offers. The central kitchen and break area is designed to serve as a meeting point for the entire office, complete with bench seating for team interaction and collaboration. With markerboard screen doors that slide along tracks, the space can either be partitioned from the rest of the office, or opened up to allow more visual access to the interior. The lounge area at the end of the floor offers views of Lady Bird Lake and is intended to be a zone for relaxation, with a stocked bar and kegerator.

The yellow and teal accents throughout the office were derived from LogicMonitor’s brand guidelines, but adapted for interior applications by adding more saturation and additional variation. Other materials throughout the space, such as wood and moss, serve as a neutral backdrop to these colors. Dimensional tile and black metal allude to traditional server framework and emphasize the company’s high-tech focus.

Through their new office, LogicMonitor wanted to enhance and create a sense of connectedness between the global offices. LogicMonitor has been so pleased with the Austin office that they have incorporated some of the finish concepts into their headquarters expansion in Santa Barbara and also engaged the same Perkins+Will team to design their Chengdu, China office set to open in mid-2018.
