TOPdesk Office – Delft
Refitters BV designed the new offices for TOPdesk, a service management software company located in Delft, The Netherlands.
TOPdesk was founded over 20 years ago by two students from Delft University and it has now grown into a worldwide company with over 500 employees situated in 10 different countries. In the beginning of 2017, they had outgrown their headquarters in Delft and desperately needed relocation and updating. The growing software & consultancy firm asked Refitters to design and build their new office within the same year.
In order to create a working environment that would seamlessly fit the TOPdesk employees, it was important to work within a close collaboration between the design team and client. Light, interaction and leisure were keywords in the design that led to a vast constructional operation. Refitters decided to open up the core of the four office floors to create a characteristic openness and visual contact between the employees on all floors.
The space that used to be the dark heart of the building, now is the main attraction of the new office; an immense staircase that creates light, social interaction and new means of transport. Another eye-catching element is the blue core of the building, it brings colour and character to the light and neutral workspace.
Refitters is skilled in designing activity based working spaces, and created a mix of open and closed workspaces combined with concentration spaces and meeting rooms. In order to provide TOPdesk with space for their active working methods, almost all wall space can be used to write on.
Because individual identity and wellbeing are highly prioritised, all employees were given sit-/standing desks and free choice of seating. To maintain a uniform look in the workspace, all work islands were ended with a pegboard wall, on which the teams can unleash their creativity with creating words or thread art. When the employees feel a little weary, they can re-energise in one of the game rooms, playing a game of Mario kart or doing some yoga.
The upper floor is completely dedicated to leisure, relaxation and meeting & talking. This floor, with an outstanding view on the old city centre on one side and the university grounds on the other side, creates the perfect atmosphere for healthy lunches and Friday afternoon drinks on the roof terrace, as well as the famous TOPdesk parties.
