The Motley Fool Offices – Alexandria
Hickok Cole were engaged by multimedia financial company, the Motley Fool, to design their offices located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Headquartered in Alexandria VA, The Motley Fool provides leading insight and analysis about stocks to help investors stay informed. The self-appointed “Fools” sought a sophisticated and modern renovation of their reception/café floor and flexible multipurpose space that reinforced their casual, hands-on approach and communal culture.
The new reception area features a dynamic puzzle wall that opens to reveal a dedicated client engagement room, including a multi-dimensional, color changing LED feature wall constructed from a recycled plastic landscape tarp stretched between steel frames. An adjustable height desk allows staff to connect eye-to-eye with visitors while maximizing personal wellness needs throughout the day. The new café includes a 32’ communal table, a semi-private area surrounded by greenery, and comfortable booths and benches to accommodate individual or small group work. Natural materials such as steel, wood and concrete were used throughout to create a sense of cohesiveness between the two spaces.
The “Fool-itorium” was designed as a hyper-flexible space for hosting seminars and special events. It includes an AV booth, theatre lighting and sound integration for seamless control of the environment. Flanking the flexible space are an informal gathering retreat and a fitness room. The fitness room features a 10’ cantilever door, allowing the room to close for smaller spin and yoga programs, as well as open to the larger space to accommodate popular kettle bell classes.
The result is a clever and user-friendly space that reinforces the company’s brand, and gives “Fools” a workplace where they can be themselves.
