It’s an irony of the property business that development and construction company offices aren’t always the most welcoming workplaces. Lendlease, which has built some of Manhattan’s most iconic places—including the 9/11 Memorial and most recently, Central Park Tower, the tallest residential building in the world—sought to apply its placemaking expertise internally by completely rejuvenating its regional headquarters in midtown Manhattan’s MetLife Building.

Headquartered in Australia, Lendlease is a global integrated property and infrastructure company with a range of skyline-defining projects to its credit: the firm developed Barangaroo South, the world’s first carbon-neutral and water-positive precinct in Sydney, Australia, and recently announced a partnership with Google to develop three new mixed-use neighborhoods in Silicon Valley.

Located just a few floors above Grand Central Station, Lendlease’s New York office is a contemporary workspace that contrasts with the building’s historic façade and reflects the company’s long-held leadership of sustainable innovation in the construction and development industry. The loft-like office includes a series of homages to New York, including dozens of photographs of the iconic buildings Lendlease has constructed over the past four decades, a pair of graffiti murals and an abstract, wood-block recreation of the High Line by Irish artist Kasia.
