No.6 – Gensler: Acts like a workshop. Feels like a home.

Gensler’s permanent home at No.6 in Moretown, East London provided an unparalleled opportunity to not only re-imagine and redesign an entire building and a unique workspace, but to transform our own processes and ways of working in order to develop in a way that is relevant to our business and clients, now and in the future.

We required a modern workspace that would act as a creative platform, enabling each and every one within the space to feel empowered; a place that would allow us to evolve the way we work.

Research and client-based experience pointed us towards adopting more agile ways of working. The space needed to allow for growth and flexibility whilst supporting a synergistic mindset. At the same time, the design process needed to allow for user engagement and transparency.

Gensler’s architecture and interior teams worked seamlessly to create a design scheme inspired by locality and contextual history. This can be seen predominantly through the building materials themselves – timber, brick and exposed steel.

It was important to ensure that Gensler’s presence in the area was complementary and enhanced the existing environment, so ‘bringing the outside, inside’ was key. This fluid, industrial and experimental character reflects how we define ourselves in terms of constant change. Repositioning No.6, as opposed to building completely anew, has significantly helped to reduce our carbon impact. The building has achieved a Design Stage assessment and interim BREEAM Excellent rating.
