Motorola Offices – Chicago
BOX Studios created the office design concept for Motorola‘s Customer Experience Center located in Chicago, Illinois.
Fewer than two weeks to design, fewer than two months to construct. The result suggests otherwise, but Motorola’s gorgeous new Customer Experience Center (CXC) was borne out of ferocity, slingshotting from conception to completion inside an unrelentingly aggressive time frame.
To achieve this, BOX Studios hit the design table running with an all-day, all-hands meeting, during which designers, engineers, contractors, manufacturers and the client obsessively iterated together until the project took shape. That meeting set the tone for a collaboration where time wasn’t wasted and aggressive schedules didn’t necessitate cutting corners or playing it safe.
Using readily-available materials, the team transformed an unremarkable ancillary wing of Motorola’s primary office space into an attraction. The 6,000 square-foot CXC complements a traditional neutral aesthetic with warm, biophilic elements – colorful furniture, earthy wood millwork, a luxurious concrete floor design. A moss wall graphic featuring Motorola’s logo boldly beckons visitors, and a dazzling moving floor projection works in concert with a persistent pendant light fixture to effortlessly guide them forward.
Technology is a cornerstone of the CXC. The stunning presentation room surrounds a seamless 199-inch display and fully-integrated surround sound system with ornate wood paneling that’s constructed for maximal acoustic effect and designed to delight. Additional conference rooms are fully A/V capable and utilize SwitchLite privacy glass for on-demand privacy. Light fixtures double as sound absorption devices, allowing employees to comfortably utilize the work cafe’s myriad seating arrangements for impromptu meetings and quiet work.
Under any timeline, the CXC is a gorgeous embrace between form, function, modernity and nature. That such care took shape under such an intense timetable is a testament to a team firing on every cylinder – clear in its communication, deliberate in its design, versatile in its coordination, and supremely confident in its vision.
