  • Folio Design achieved the office design of Ciment McInnis, the innovative cement company, located in Montreal, Canada.

Folio design was approached by the client for the design of Ciment McInnis’ new head office. The existing space had become too small for this rapidly expanding company. The mandate was not only an expansion of the space, it also included a study of the living-working spaces adapted to the new realities of work and how users would interact with the environment. All this while respecting and reflecting on Ciment McInnis’ brand image.

Together with the client we created a hybrid space, both open and closed, to meet the needs of users, while maximizing the layout for open-plan workstations at the perimeter of the building allowing users access to natural light.

The facilities are intersected by various collaboration zones, coffee areas, window-edge shared work corners, and telephone booths to encourage meetings or that can be used as private spaces to allow employees to perform confidential or concentration demanding tasks.

The use of glass partitions, raw materials such as the concrete slabs in the conference room, the exposed ceiling design, the play of ceiling drops with color inserts as well as wood helped transform the space into a dynamic and friendly environment. Various light sources accentuate the details of shapes and volumes that can be seen throughout the space. A duality between light and dark spaces creates different moods and distinctive points of interest throughout the space.

The use of floor angles and the installation of acoustic ceiling panels allow for the creation of movement and depth, while recalling the geometry of the client’s logo. The use of carpets as well as acoustic panels in work areas and collaborative spaces allowed us to offer the client acoustic solutions, which were important from the beginning of the project.
