  • Whitney Architects has partnered with German multinational engineering firm, Bosch, to design their Automotive Aftermarket division offices in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

In the Helmut Jahn-designed tower, Whitney had a dynamic floorplan to work with, highlighted by the pinnacled rooftop space consisting of intersecting triangular prisms. The four faces present breathtaking 360-degree views of the Chicago Skyline and Northern Illinois plains.

The 31st floor penthouse, known as the Skyview Room, serves as the central welcome and gathering space for employees and clients alike. The four atriums are intensely illuminated thanks to the large windows and feature modular furnishings and supportive IT which provide the ideal hybrid environment for collaboration. One area is a fully enabled smart room that serves as an adaptable conference center for workshops and brainstorming sessions.

The range collaborative environments offered prominently throughout the office put into practice the inspiring working conditions that Bosch sought when moving from a traditional office setting that had serious limitations. The new floorplan is meant to build rapport among employees. Work cafes and lounge spaces flank either side of each floor’s reception and offer an energizing workplace to fuel creativity and increase the cross-functional collaboration.

Each floor is branded with elements that celebrate Bosch’s culture and identity. The 27th floor focuses on innovation, product quality and precision. 28 highlights connectivity and global partnerships. Movement and fluidity thematics emphasize the forward-thinking and ever-changing nature of the company using natural elements and organic shapes.

The result is an open and energetic space that takes advantage of the building’s spectacular views and underscores Bosch Automotive’s innovative nature and their record of achievement. Our entire Whitney team is so grateful for Bosch’s long-term collaboration and can’t wait for our next endeavor!
