Bosch Offices – Budapest
Bosch's "New Way of Working" project includes the renewal of interior spaces in their Budapest office complex with an "Activity Based Working" concept, emphasizing flexible community spaces organized around green isles on all four levels.
UPPER Design designed a light and playful space for the Bosch offices in Budapest, Hungary.
Bosch dubbed the revitalisation project of its offices ’New Way of Working’, first step of which is the renewal of the interior spaces of building 106 of the Gyömrői Street office complex, built about 15 years ago. The plans, that have been created by the Budapest based UPPER Design Studio through consulting with professionals in different fields and several workshops with the employees, defined the precise spatial requirements for each office activity. In alignment with the ’Activity Based Working (ABW)’ concept, the functions and proportions of the different spaces were defined based on the required room and equipment of the activities performed, taking into consideration which activities must take place in the office, and which are the ones, that the workers are more comfortable performing at home.
Enticing the employees back to the offices was a priority goal, as personal connections strengthen the community, therefore promoting smoother workflow. In alignment with this, the interior design team put an emphasis on flexible, effortlessly convertible community spaces. The different areas, defined by curving surfaces, glass walls and unique light sources, are organized around green isles on all four levels, each recalling a different renewable energy source with the use of colours, materials, furniture, and wallpapers emphasizing the theme of the floor. The ground floor reflects on bioenergy, the clean, high-tech design is complemented by an abundance of indoor plants and a green wall. On the level above, representing geothermic energy, the focus is on earthy colours, more substantial furniture, and natural materials, like ceramics. The floor showcasing hydropower is bathed in blue, turquoise and coral colours, with ceiling lights resembling fishing nets; while the floor demonstrating wind energy with an airy, graceful style, the dominance of the light blue and white colours is accompanied by pastel tones. Finally, the roof terrace builds on the yellow shades and symbols of solar energy.
In this pilot project of the company’s new workspace concept, with diverse acoustic solutions for open office spaces, with spaces that help collaboration and the formation of smaller groups, instead of a strictly rectangular arrangement of tables, the designers created an intimate and homely office with a unique and lovable atmosphere, which can set an excellent example for the new generation of big company offices.
