After almost twenty years officing in a 6,000 square foot, 4-story, 19th century house in the West End district of Austin, Studio8 was struggling with growing pains and knew it was time to find another ‘home’ that could accommodate their evolving staffing and technology needs. The design team was challenged with bringing elements of the beloved historic home that had shaped their company culture into their new 10,000 s.f. office space. Bespoke details including chair rail molding, coffered acoustic ceilings, decorative pendants and cove lighting, warm wood floors, fluted wood, and steel storefronts were implemented into the new design to instill a hospitable and historic atmosphere. Where their previous office lacked significant meeting areas, storage, and flexible open office space, the new office exceeds their demands and includes conference and hoteling rooms, a virtual reality lounge, flexible open office, and a large break area with a 20-foot table that can be transformed into an active community gathering space. The employees’ favorite part about their new home is the bold and light-filled break room that feeds into a ‘front porch’, a nod to the historical home where the company gathered to celebrate corporate events and milestones or connect with their clients and colleagues.
