  • The filmmaker duo was looking for a space that could serve as their headquarters while also functioning as a full editing and production studio, allowing for screenings with executives in addition to having functioning editing suites, video equipment storage, and proper soundproofing. Despite being located in the Flatiron district of New York City, this office takes inspiration from across the globe, with wood paneling inspired by Japanese Shoji screens and vintage Carlo Scarpa theater chairs from Italy. They wanted an office with a fresh and modern feel, yet formal enough to complement the historic building it calls home, resulting in a bold, innovative space peppered with family heirlooms and unexpected moments of playfulness inspired by their love for adventure.

The entryway features a snug alcove lined with gold wallpaper by Lindsay Edelman for Calico, with a 1970s pendant by Carlo Nason for Mazzega hanging above a custom banquette and red lacquer dining table to create a little jewel box of sorts. Chai’s office showcases her love of fashion through the use of bold fabrics and eye-catching prints, found in both the jungle-inspired Calico wallpaper and hand-knotted rug from Nordic Knots. The screening room calls upon a sense of Old Hollywood nostalgia, with vintage Carlo Scarpa theater chairs and a Hay sectional sofa reupholstered in House of Hackney and Dedar fabric adding an unexpected vintage glamour to the space.
