Lang Architecture Offices – New York City
Lang Architecture in New York transformed two office spaces into a cohesive work home, featuring sustainable furniture, communal areas, and abundant natural light in a design focused on creating a collaborative and inspiring environment.
The two office spaces were acquired by Lang in Spring of 2023, with work beginning in 2024, to join them together, creating a number of ideal opportunities for the firm to design their perfect work home. One was a new office core which contains two conference rooms as well as storage rooms and a newly designed kitchen with a custom stainless steel sink, shelf, and countertop. This wasn’t just a facelift of the office, Lang also took this opportunity to make sure there was an upgrade in the aspects of an architect’s office. They created a singular large open studio space, materials library, and research area, something which was easy to do with the taller 14’ high ceilings and 2,300 sq ft.
At the heart of the design is a reflection of who Lang Architecture is and what they are about, at its core – its people. Whether in the office or with clients or communities, Lang’s focus is about the people who interact with them and their work on a daily basis. This means a great amount of thought and effort were put forth into deciding the furnishings of the office that would provide everyday comfort. Lang tapped collaborators for furniture with a craft forward ilk whose pieces would create a positive working environment. A big part of making that environment is that it would be sustainable. The Carl Hansen & Søn wishbone chairs in the office and Reform kitchen cabinets embody a commitment to sustainability with a guarantee on limiting material waste and repurposing materials with a focus on end of life function. While the Treeline light by Stickbulb which hangs above the conference room table is made out of fallen trees from NYC’s urban forest.
The large windows reaching up to the ceiling allow in abundant natural light, which fills all corners of the office in a warm and inviting glow. Communal spaces were incorporated and added to the space to ensure that a collaborative environment could be fostered. The result is an uplifting light, bright and airy office – a space where the team working at Lang would want to come everyday to work and inspire one another.
