EY Offices – Doha
EY’s new office design in Doha by AAIDÂ draws inspiration from the city’s landscape, cultural motifs, and sustainability, fostering collaboration, well-being, and inclusivity with a focus on natural elements.
EY’s decision to relocate their office to a new building in Msheireb Downtown Doha marked a significant opportunity to redefine their workspace. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the client aimed to create an environment that would not only attract employees back to the office but also foster collaboration, creativity, and well-being. Their vision encompassed a workspace that exuded warmth and inclusivity, offering a variety of settings for both focused work and relaxed interaction. Additionally, EY sought to align the design with their global workplace standards outlined in the EY playbook, emphasising sustainability, wellness, and inclusivity.
Design Story
The EY Doha office design by AAID draws inspiration from the essence of Doha itself. Rooted in the Arabic etymology of the city’s name, which translates to “roundness,” the design embodies fluidity and adaptability. Doha’s landscape, characterized by inland desert dunes and peninsular shores, serves as a muse, guiding the organic shapes and cultural motifs woven throughout the space. This narrative symbolizes the seamless integration of EY’s story with that of Doha, reflecting the city’s spirit of innovation and progress.Material Palette
The material selection for the EY Doha office reflects a thoughtful selection inspired by the natural elements of Qatar’s capital. Drawing from the hues of desert sands, azure seas, and historic architecture, the palette encompasses a spectrum of blues and reds. These colors are arranged to mimic the shifting tones found in the landscape, creating a visual journey akin to the rippling flow of water and the dunes of the desert. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, the chosen materials prioritise sustainability, aligning with EY’s commitment to environmental responsibility.Sustainability, Inclusivity, and Wellness
The design of the EY Doha office embodies a holistic approach to sustainability, inclusivity, and employee wellness. Through strategic measures and innovative solutions, AAID and EY collaborated to create a workspace that not only minimizes its environmental footprint but also prioritizes the needs and well-being of its diverse workforce. LED lighting fixtures are employed extensively throughout the space to enhance energy efficiency and comply with local regulations. Materials sourced locally and certified for sustainability further underscore the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Recycling bins integrated into the design promote responsible waste management practices.Inclusivity is woven into the fabric of the design, with a focus on flexibility and accessibility. Varied textures in flooring finishes aid wayfinding for individuals with low vision, while the incorporation of inclusive furniture and bespoke design solutions ensures that the space accommodates the diverse needs of all employees, including those with disabilities. In addition, the provision of designated relaxation areas and multi-use spaces promotes employee well-being, fostering a sense of balance and rejuvenation amidst the demands of the workday. Biophilic elements, such as natural light and greenery, further enhance the connection to nature.
