Concrete Works Chemicals Constrution Offices – Mumbai
In Mumbai, Radhika Utpat Studio and The Design Corner created a design concept focused on open-plan spaces, curved forms, and a material palette inspired by concrete for a sophisticated and functional workspace.
The design concept prioritizes an open-plan common floor to enhance spatial volume and create an inviting ambiance. Private cabins, including the MD’s office, are strategically placed as a backdrop to this expansive central area.
Curved and arched forms are used to maneuver through tight spaces, softening transitions and concealing structural columns. These arches define different sections without interrupting movement, optimizing narrow areas while adding sophistication. The entrance features an arched passage in Birch Wood Veneer, elegantly hiding a structural column and establishing a focal point. Upon entering, the reception area greets visitors with softly curving partitions that flow into the reception desk, reflecting the company’s formal yet welcoming nature.
The design effortlessly merges functionality with aesthetic appeal, emphasizing openness, flexibility, and fluidity. Openable screens in the conference area allow seamless integration with the reception when needed. The adjacent conference room and cabins, clad in muted grey, form a monolithic backdrop to the open space. Beyond the reception partition, cubicles for senior staff feature translucent screens, ensuring privacy while maintaining an airy feel. Symmetrically arranged workstations, with curved panelling and pin-up boards, form the heart of the office, promoting collaboration and efficiency.
The entrance to the MD’s cabin and informal seating area is marked by graceful birch veneer arches, which conceal storage, technical components, and structural elements. The MD’s cabin, a sanctuary of refined simplicity, is bathed in natural light. Beige marble tiles provide subtle warmth, complementing the overall color palette. An informal seating nook near the desk, accented by a soft rug, creates an inviting space for conversation.
An arched entrance invites visitors into an informal meeting space, highlighted by an earthy rust-colored rug and a Raza artwork that adds character and warmth. Recurring design elements, including arches, translucent screens, patterned veneers, terracotta rugs, and hanging meshes, unify the entire space. Flexibility is further emphasized by the inclusion of black wooden pedestals, versatile pieces that transform into coffee tables, seats, or display stands as needed. Senior staff desks are positioned along the windows, with translucent screens offering privacy while maintaining openness. The window ledges are repurposed as planter shelves, adding greenery to the workspace.
Material Palette
Inspired by the client’s concrete chemicals manufacturing industry, the material palette reflects a raw yet refined aesthetic. Concrete, with its fluid-like properties, is echoed in the soft, curved forms throughout the design. Paired with concrete-inspired greys, birch veneer adds warmth and sophistication to the space. This timeless combination of birch wood and concrete hues is elevated by textured veneers and rust-colored accents, creating depth and interest. Patterned grey veneers give the illusion of layered, poured concrete elements, while terracotta rugs and ceiling-mounted fabrication pieces bring warmth to informal areas. Lush greenery is strategically placed, adding life and vibrancy to the office, ensuring a balanced and harmonious environment.
