DESIGN
Local community and design is at the heart of &CO North’s aesthetic, led by Rebecca Johnson. The space features a harmonious blend of earth-tones with pops of vibrant hues, bringing the nearby Hamilton Park indoors. Johnson’s vision for the co-working space establishes a natural connection with the outside environment to evoke a biophilic feel, creating a dialogue between natural light and custom materials. Johnson utilized key pieces from contemporary American designers like Hannah Bigeleisen, Robert Suchrand, Juntos Studios, and Celine Wright of Swadoh to weave in modern elegance throughout. Her attention to detail is immediately apparent in the first floor lobby. The space showcases contemporary American designers in an environment influenced by 20th century Italian architect, Carlo Scarpa. The inspiration taken from Italian architecture continues into the &CO work space, defined by expressive, poetic, and radical elements intricately woven throughout. With a focus on the local community and talent, &CO North features local Jersey City artists such as Macauley Norman, Gionna Forte, Shamona Stokes and Max Budnick. Ceramics and tiles seen throughout are made by local ceramic artists at Betty’s, located right down the street.
