Iconica Offices – Madison
Iconica in Madison, Wisconsin redesigned its office space to showcase seamless integration of architecture, interior design, and construction, featuring modern elements, collaborative areas, and a strong design language.
Iconica, an award-winning design-build firm in Madison, Wisconsin, has reimagined its workspace to reflect its values, enhance collaboration, and showcase the seamless integration of architecture, interior design, and construction.
Originally designed in the late 1990s, the office required a fresh perspective to meet the evolving needs of today’s workforce. The redesigned lobby establishes a strong first impression while illustrating the firm’s design-build expertise. A terrazzo-look tile floor grounds the space, while a bold blue, back-painted glass box serves as a bold centerpiece. Furniture by Geiger is contrasted by a rough-hewn, LVL slat ceiling, hand-built by the client’s skilled carpenters, emphasizing the seamless integration of construction and creativity.
At the heart of the office is The Arena, a gathering space designed for everything from plan reviews to social events. A modern lighting installation from Artemide’s Alphabet of Light collection defines the space, while a feature wall proudly displays the firm’s 23 Behaviors in glossy blue acrylic letters, reinforcing core values and inspiring daily work. With movable photo frames and interchangeable content, the Who We Are wall evolves to highlight team achievements and milestones, strengthening company culture.
In the workspace, existing clerestory windows, previously hidden by aging blinds, were uncovered to allow natural light to flood the space while maintaining comfort through glare-reducing exterior film. Elegant cylindrical pendants by OCL accentuate the double-height ceilings, adding sculptural appeal. Interface and Shaw Contract flooring throughout the office blend graphic patterns with rich textures, defining zones while creating visual harmony.
Transformed from oversized partner offices, the Work Café now serves as a warm and inviting communal space. A wood slat wall extends the material continuity from the lobby, reinforcing a cohesive design language and showcasing expert craftsmanship. Furnished with pieces from Geiger and Muuto, the café balances comfort with modern aesthetics, supporting a variety of work styles.
