Dottir Law Offices – Helsinki
KOKO3 transformed a Finnish law firm into an innovative hybrid space, blending office, gallery, and event venue with bold art, minimalist architecture, and flexible, open-plan layouts.
A sculpture of a hand wrapped in barbed wire flashing a peace sign isn’t what you’d expect to see in a law firm. But Dottir isn’t a typical law firm. Known for breaking legal industry conventions, one of the fastest growing Finnish firms has taken the same approach to its workspace—now transformed into a top-tier hybrid of office, gallery, and event venue by award-winning design studio KOKO3.
A Space That Defies Stereotypes The redesign challenges the traditional law firm aesthetic, replacing mahogany desks and leather chairs with raw, minimalist architecture and a bold art collection. Flexibility is at the heart of the concept: no assigned desks, modular furniture on wheels, and an open-plan layout allow the space to shift seamlessly from office to event space to social venue.
Art as an Experience, Not Decoration Entering Dottir’s headquarters feels more like stepping into a contemporary art gallery than a corporate office. Works by some of Finland’s most provocative artists, including graffiti pioneer EGS and visual artist Riiko Sakkinen, dominate the space, creating a constant dialogue between law and artistic expression. Art isn’t just decoration here—it’s integral to the firm’s identity.
Nordic Cool with an Edge KOKO3’s design strips the space down to its essentials, embracing spatial clarity, focused lighting, and a monochrome palette paired with deep red accents drawn from the building’s historical roots. Custom-built furniture reinforces the clean-cut aesthetic, while statement pieces—like the Finnish-designed Visio chair by Yrjö Wiherheimo and Simo Heikkilä—add an 80´s post modernistic touch.
After multiple iterations to perfect the cold, stripped-back shades, the final design is as bold as the firm itself—an office unlike any other, where law, art, and design merge seamlessly to redefine what a legal workspace can be.A sculpture of a hand wrapped in barbed wire flashing a peace sign isn’t what you’d expect to see in a law firm.
