Schumacher Offices – New York City
Float Studio’s Schumacher offices in New York City harmoniously blends distinct patterns with existing architecture, creating an inspiring loft space that fosters collaboration among creative teams across multiple levels.
FS&CO, formerly known as F. Shumacher & CO or simply, Shumacher, has been at the forefront of design for 130 years, producing iconic designs in textiles, wallpapers, paints and furniture.
We began to rethink their existing space in midtown, working on layouts with an additional floor. We realized the space wasn’t going to fit future needs, and so the scouting process began. We found a space in Soho and started strategizing how to turn a 19th century New York building into more than just another corporate office. The first few months were spent on programming: taking inventory of each team’s space needs and drawing plans that show how to accommodate adjacencies and space requirements for a growing team across the 3 floors.
Our team then got to work designing the interior architecture and producing the drawing set including: lighting plans and glass systems to millwork designs and finish selections. For the interiors, we spent the day at Schumacher’s showroom in the D and D building selecting fabrics and wallcoverings from their own product lines that could be strategically infused into the space.
We then collaborated with Dara Caponigro, Schumacher’s chief creative officer, on the finish strategy for each floor and team to make sure everything felt right.
We loved working with them and the final product shows. The interior architecture did a lot of the heavy lifting, and the open spaces were kept simple leaning on the fabulous FS&CO product lines.
