  • A-nrd has completed Meadow, a thoughtfully layered and expressive creative workspace located within Mason & Fifth’s newly launched Westbourne Park site from architects AHMM. Created as a grounded, sensory counterbalance to the pace of the city outside, Meadow is a space designed to offer focus and comfort where members, guests and the wider creative community can work, meet, and decompress. It extends A-nrd’s design vision, following the studio’s acclaimed design of the on-site restaurant Canal.

Occupying over 900 sqm across ground and lower ground floor, Meadow was conceived as a sequence of softly defined zones balancing moments of privacy and openness for quiet working, informal meetings, collaboration and retreat, that shift in mood and function throughout the day. Working closely with The Mason & Fifth Design studio, A-nrd developed the interior scheme to reflect the client’s values of community, wellbeing and fluid living into a tactile, day-to-night environment.

Accessed from street level, guests enter Meadow through an entrance framed by full-height Crittall-style glazing, which floods the creative space with natural light. A curved velvet modular sofa wraps around a large recycled plastic table with a generously scaled rug zoning the entrance area, softening acoustics and anchoring the seating within the open plan. A contoured floor lamp and generous planting introduce a calm, homely feel from the outset. Walls are painted in a chalky neutral whilst flooring throughout is warm-toned Forbo, laid across both levels to unify the flow of space.

A sculptural reception console craft by Jason Posnot of Or This – sits nearby subtly marking the arrival point without disrupting the spatial flow, followed by grouping of relaxed linen sofas. The palette here is rich and grounded, immediately establishing the project’s emphasis on warmth, tactility and tonal depth. Just beyond, a meeting room is delineated by full-height Crittall-style glazing, offering privacy while allowing light and sightlines to pass through uninterrupted. The framing is colour-matched to the walls, keeping the overall palette consistent and unobtrusive. The room features a walnut boardroom-style table paired with cantilevered chairs upholstered with a geometric ochre hued weave.

From here, Meadow unfolds into a series of communal Workbenches, booths, phone booths and rest areas. A large rectangular communal table designed by A-nrd wraps around an existing concrete column, creating a central planter. The tabletop and base are crafted in planked sapele wood, with the latter featuring exposed dowel fixings which showcase and celebrate the construction. The raised planter is clad in alternating shades of glossy red ceramic tiles from Solus, adding rhythm, texture and a saturated hit of colour to the otherwise grounded palette. Densely layered planting softens the scheme and reinforces spatial zoning without the need for enclosure. Mustard-hued swivel chairs inject a bold, contemporary accent. Nearby, a round table and vintage curved-back metal chairs upholstered in chocolate-toned striped velvet echo the material palette and patterning found throughout.

Central to the area is an informal conversation pit designed for relaxed conversation. A curve of S-shaped modular chairs upholstered in a rich chocolate woollen fabric are designed for comfort and pause. The arrangement is built around low inset metal shelving, and sculptural timber side tables allowing for informal working without the need for traditional furniture. The palette is deliberately low-slung and earthy, with layering across upholstery, timber and plantings.

Beyond this, a more structured working area begins to emerge. One of the defining features of the space, the central ‘island’ introduces a more relaxed working zone designed for comfort and calm. Known for their highly bespoke interior concepts, A-nrd have designed a series of custom day beds, each with an integrated circular side table – continuing the studio’s theme of decorative utility. Framed by a landscape of built-in planters clad in glossy deep red ceramic tiles from Solus, the day beds are partially enclosed by these subtle privacy screens that encourage a more domestic mode of working – feet up, as one might at home. The generous planting softens the architectural lines and brings a sense of the outdoors into the heart of the interior.

Along one wall, a series of private booths and built-in benches are custom designed by A-nrd, who also created the long communal desk that anchors the nearby space. Crafted entirely from richly grained sapele wood, the partitions form a rhythm of focused work zones, each with integrated seating upholstered in a tactile striped bouclé by Kirkby Design. The tables, also made from solid sapele with softly rounded edges, echo the gentle curves seen throughout the project. These quiet corners are lit by compact table lamps offer task lighting as needed.

Opposite, the studio’s bespoke solid sapele workbench provides an additional focal point, a generous, communal counter that balances function with visual weight. Together, these elements reflect A-nrd’s consistent, material-led approach and ability to shape spaces that are as inviting as they are purposeful. Further mustard done swivel chairs bring a fresh pop of colour to the area whilst freestanding storage pieces help break the plan into zones without sacrificing openness.

Downstairs on the lower ground floor, the tone becomes softer and more domestic. A communal kitchen and private Workshops support extended use, with the kitchen designed as a spatial and social hub, balancing craft and utility. Both the cabinetry and island were designed and crafted by A-nrd in solid sapele wood, with the island acting as the focal point topped in warm mustard-hued terrazzo resin that’s echoed across the rear counter and splashback to create cohesion and a sense of permanence. In contrast, light green zellige tiles utlilised on the kitchen wall introduce texture and tonal variation. Overhead, two handmade paper washi-inspired pendants by Findere form a soft canopy of light, further softening the junction between task and atmosphere.

Past the kitchen, the lower ground floor hosts a series of enclosed Workshops with Crittal-style glazing colour matched the walls, and large work areas designed to echo the feel and materiality of the main space above. While more private in function, these rooms and areas share the same warm, tactile palette – pairing clean-lined furniture with softly textured upholstery and rich tones – ensuring a cohesive experience across both levels.

Across Meadow, materiality plays a key role in creating depth and warmth. A warm palette of textured upholstery, timber and tiles creates a sense of depth and softness throughout. Furniture was sourced and customised in collaboration with Mason & Fifth and Interior Address, balancing character and adaptability. Much of the scheme is modular, allowing the space to flex with changing usage. Exposed ceilings and concrete columns remain visible, grounding the interior in the building’s existing structure and bringing contrast to the space. The result is a dynamic and engaging space that feels open yet grounded and refined, a textural response to the emerging rhythms of modern hybrid work.

Meadow offers a new kind of creative workspace, a calm and layered response and one that balances openness with intimacy, and structure with ease. Through a considered interplay of material, layout and light, A-nrd has shaped an environment that supports productivity, encourages collaboration, and brings a sense of wellbeing to the experience of the working day.
