Merit Interiors designed the MEGT 0ffices in Melbourne to foster a welcoming, adaptable workspace that embodies inclusivity and collaboration, reflecting the organization’s heritage and future vision.
Design has the power to transform – not only through aesthetics, but by shaping culture, empowering people, and giving purpose a physical form. For MEGT, this vision came to life in a workplace that is welcoming, adaptable, and deeply aligned with their values of inclusivity, pride, and belonging.
Developed in close partnership with our client, the design responds to MEGT’s vision for a connected, future-focused environment. The result is a professional yet dynamic workplace that encourages collaboration, sparks creativity, and reflects a strong sense of identity. Every element, from spatial planning to materiality, was chosen to support the people who use it, ensuring the design feels both intentional and personal.
From the moment you arrive, the space invites connection. The coffee and kitchen bars create natural points of connection, where cross-collaboration flows easily and people come together in a casual, social way. At the heart of the workplace, a generous breakout zone that flexes across the day, shifting seamlessly from team lunches and one-on-one catch-ups to town halls and large-scale events. These communal areas are balanced with refined detailing and polished finishes that communicate professionalism, ensuring the workplace feels credible while remaining approachable.
Where MEGT once operated in a fragmented environment, this new workplace redefines how people interact. Open, accessible spaces foster inclusivity and shared success, while quiet corners, natural light, and acoustic control create places of calm and focus. The layering of flexible zones nurtures culture, offering choice in how people connect, collaborate, or recharge, supporting both teamwork and individual wellbeing.
The design draws inspiration from the neighbouring environment. A palette grounded in evergreens, raw textures, and earthy neutrals reflects MEGT’s roots in skilled education and apprenticeships. These tones are layered with bold colour in the breakout areas and soft warmth in focus zones, creating contrast while maintaining a sense of harmony. Every detail, from tactile fabrics to subtle lighting, helps create an environment that is grounded yet aspirational.
This is a workplace shaped for its people, resilient yet refined, designed to spark pride, connection, and everyday moments of growth. It doesn’t just function as an office; it embodies MEGT’s story, weaving together their heritage and ambitions into a place that feels authentic, future-ready, and uniquely theirs.
