Vandebron Offices – Amsterdam
Parella Group’s Vandebron offices in Amsterdam ingeniously blend industrial heritage with contemporary design, creating a sustainable workspace that reflects the company’s commitment to green energy and fostering collaboration.
Vandebron, a provider of green energy, established its headquarters in a former machine factory dating back to 1901, located near Amsterdam Central Station. The project brings together industrial heritage and contemporary workplace standards, resulting in a sustainable and future-proof office environment aligned with the company’s mission.
Parella supported Vandebron with real estate advisory and full project management services, while the interior design was developed by Dutch design studio Hollandse Nieuwe. The ambition was clear: to create a workspace that reflects Vandebron’s commitment to sustainability while preserving the powerful identity of the historic building.
A Location Aligned with Brand and Purpose
As part of the real estate advisory mission, Parella assisted in identifying and securing a characterful building that resonates with Vandebron’s brand values and long-term sustainability ambitions. The former industrial site offered authenticity, strong architectural features, and a central location — all essential components for a company positioning itself as a pioneer in the green energy sector.
The choice of a renovated heritage building rather than a new development reflects Vandebron’s environmental commitment, embedding circular thinking into the very foundation of its workplace strategy.
Integrating New Work Patterns into a Historic Structure
Spanning 1,600 sqm, the design introduces a clear spatial organization within the historic envelope. Hollandse Nieuwe developed a new internal structure that enhances functionality while respecting the building’s defining characteristics.
Distinctive features such as long sightlines, level differences, and split floors were preserved and carefully integrated into the new layout. These elements create a dynamic yet logical circulation throughout the building, ensuring intuitive wayfinding and a seamless user experience.
A clearly defined central core acts as the heart of the headquarters — a recognizable hub that anchors the different zones and supports spontaneous encounters. Around this core, workstations, meeting rooms, collaboration areas, and social spaces are carefully zoned to promote focus, exchange, and flexibility.
Materials, Character, and Spatial Identity
Each floor highlights its own architectural qualities. On the ground floor, exposed steel columns reference the building’s industrial past, while under the pitched roof, wooden trusses create a warm and inspiring atmosphere. The dialogue between steel and timber reinforces the balance between robustness and sustainability.
Generous daylight, visible structural elements, and the integration of greenery contribute to a healthy and engaging work environment. The workplace is designed to evolve with the organization, offering flexibility without compromising spatial clarity.
Project Management and Delivery
Parella ensured comprehensive project management, overseeing planning, budget, quality control, and coordination between design and execution through to final delivery. This integrated approach guaranteed consistency between strategic objectives, architectural vision, and operational performance.
A Sustainable and Evolutive Workplace
The result is a durable and adaptable headquarters that successfully merges industrial heritage with the demands of modern work. Clear zoning and a recognizable central core make collaboration, meetings, and orientation feel natural and intuitive.
More than just an office, Vandebron’s Amsterdam headquarters is a physical expression of its mission: accelerating the transition to sustainable energy while remaining deeply rooted in its context — historically, architecturally, and socially.
