BARRA&BARRA Offices – Piedmont
Duilio Damilano’s Barra&Barra Offices in Piedmont transform the former Confindustria space into an inviting, thoughtfully designed headquarters that balances professional rigor with a nurturing, collaborative environment.
Set within the urban fabric of Cuneo, the new Barra&Barra headquarters occupies the former Confindustria premises, marking a significant adaptive reuse project. Spanning 600 square meters and developed over a 12-month period, the intervention transcends mere renovation; it redefines the architectural narrative of the site, transforming it into a space that encapsulates a cohesive entrepreneurial vision.
The project is the culmination of an extensive search for a central, expansive volume capable of hosting the company’s articulated organizational structure. The design is signed by architect Duilio Damilano, who continues a long-standing professional synergy with Barra&Barra following their 2011 collaboration.
The design philosophy departs from the traditional, sterile institutional model. Instead, it seeks a balance between rigorous professional standards and a more intimate, tactile dimension. The result is a welcoming, “soft” environment designed to prioritize the well-being of its occupants.
The architectural language proceeds by subtraction, employing a measured aesthetic where every choice—spatial distribution, materiality, and lighting—follows a logic of equilibrium, legibility, and permanence.
The programmatic distribution of spaces is designed to manage complexity: operational hubs, collaborative zones, and bespoke client-facing areas coexist within a fluid yet disciplined system. A defining feature of the project is a subtle “feminine sensitivity,” reflecting the firm’s leadership—headed by Romina Barra and Elisa Maggiori—and its predominantly female team. This influence manifests in the nuanced spatial choreography and the curated atmosphere.
Natural and architectural lighting serve as the primary guiding elements, enhancing spatial perception and fostering a balanced internal climate. The selection of materials is contemporary and essential: timber cladding and integrated artworks by local artists avoid ornamental excess, prioritizing surfaces designed for temporal durability.
The new headquarters introduces an evolved office typology, where environmental quality is an intrinsic component of the productive process.
