Studio27’s Invengene Research & Development office in Mumbai innovatively integrates a dynamic laboratory and collaborative workspace, prioritizing employee experience and well-being within an inspiring, human-centric design.
The client’s new Research & Development facility spans nearly 17,000 sq. ft., thoughtfully divided into two distinct yet interconnected halves—one housing a state-of-the-art laboratory, and the other, a workspace designed for the scientists who bring it to life.
Shaped by early dialogues with the founders, the design moves beyond a conventional office brief to envision the workplace as an experience-led destination. At its core is an intent to centre the employee—crafting an environment that is inclusive, intuitive, and quietly inspiring. The spatial language reflects the company’s ethos, where performance is balanced with wellbeing, and structure is softened with moments of ease.
A spectrum of work settings anchors the plan, allowing for fluid transitions between collaboration and focus.
The breakout zone introduces a distinct shift in mood—rich, vibrant hues paired with relaxed yet purposeful seating create a setting that feels informal yet intentional, encouraging conversations that drift, extend, and occasionally spark something new.
The cafeteria reveals itself as an unexpected oasis within the workplace—serene yet playful. Beyond its primary function, it serves as a flexible setting for informal meetings or quiet pauses during non-peak hours.
The open workspace is strategically positioned to draw in ample natural light, lending the interiors a sense of calm clarity while enhancing everyday comfort. Material choices and planning strategies subtly reinforce a human-centric approach, where the experience of the end user remains paramount.
Thoughtfully composed at every scale, the workplace reimagines the contemporary office—one that holds community, comfort, and lasting relevance at its heart, quietly reshaping the idea of coming to work.
